Pornography is a Tsunami

I watched some footage of the Asian tsunamis with my two sons on YouTube last night (one of my sons asked about them, as he had heard something about tsunamis at school that day). As we watched the terrifying footage (see below), my mind was drawn to a memory of several different professionals who have used the imagery of a tsunami to describe the impact of pornography on individuals, marriages, families, and society.

So, I took the opportunity to teach a powerful lesson.

I said, “boys, did you know that pornography and other bad stuff on the Internet is like a tsumani?” “Why do you think I would use that word?”

It was clear. No words were needed. They understood what I meant as they watched debris swirling in the massive blasts of water, the suction pulling people and buildings away, and the mass confusion and destruction caused by something so powerful.

The only way to avoid the damage from the tsunami of pornography is to get to higher ground (spiritually, emotionally, relationally) and continue efforts to educate individuals and families on how they can stem the tide flowing at them with such force. Parents and families have a lot of power and can do so much.
